Monastery Mentor became the best deck (or arguably tied with Shops). Rest in Peace has none of those weaknesses. All of them have weaknesses against the dredge plan that anti-hate cards like Nature's Claim or Firestorm could overcome: namely that they either let you keep putting cards in your graveyard until you were ready to go off, or they prevented you from putting cards in your graveyard but didn't stop the cards already there, or in the case of Crypt/Relic, they do nothing after going off. One, once upon a time, people had to choose between Tormod's Crypt, Relic of Progenitus, Yixilid Jailor, Leyline of the Void, Wheel of Sun and Moon, and Grafdigger's Cage for their dredge hate. This was several years ago now, but it's worth mentioning for two reasons. Rest In Peace was printed (together with Deathrite Shaman, the maindeck hate card, but that's not the subject of this point). Warning that the following contains my thoughts, as well as I can organize them, and might not the whole truth. From what I can tell, the decrease in results isn't due to Mentor getting weaker (a fact I contest, more on that later), but because of several things accumulating over time to result in other decks getting better at a faster rate than Dredge. Probe/Gush restrictions had no effect on this, because it began well before those happened. But it hasn't been putting up results lately, it's true. I love vintage dredge, and have ever since I saw the original primer for Manaless Ichorid.
